Horse riding through Orkhon Valley
Tour Description
Only in Mongolia horses are central to daily life. Known as the land of the horses, Mongolia offers vast steppes and beautiful valleys where you can enjoy horse riding in Mongolian`s way.
This tour will take you to the highlights of the Orkhon valley such as, Orkhon river waterfall, Khusiin Naiman nuur lake, Tuvkhun temple-where H.E Zanabazar created his precious sculptures, and Tsenkher hot spring.
You will be introduced to the lifestyle of local nomadic families and get a bit deeper into horse culture of Mongolians.
Itinerary
Arrival and city tour
Welcome!
We will welcome you at the airport/train station in Ulaanbaatar (UB), the capital of Mongolia and assist you checking in to the hotel.
Have a rest until we take you for guided walking city tour that will introduce you to the highlights of the city namely the central city square with a grand statue of Genghis Khan and Sukhbaatar statue placed at the center as well, museum of National History, and Choijin Lama or State Oracle Residence-museum displaying best samples of Buddhist artwork and religious masks or the Fine Arts Zanabazar Museum.
In the evening at 6 p.m you will watch a performance of traditional music, throat singing and contortion. Following the performance, a welcome dinner is set for you.
Tour around Karakorum and Erdenezuu monastery
Today we will head to Kharkhorin or Karakorum - the capital of the Mongol Empire founded in the early 13th century by Genghis Khan’s son until it was demolished in the 14th century.
Local monk will guide us around the monastery. Today the main attraction here is the monastery museum of Erdene Zuu established in 16th century by a Mongol khan as part of introduction of Buddhism as the main religion. The monastery then suffered almost a complete destruction during the anti-religion campaign of 1930-ies with just a dozen of temples surviving till present. Spend some time in the peaceful premises of the monastery and take a glance at a few surviving artifacts of the old capital. You may as well walk the earthen hills nearby that still contain remains of the imperial capital.
After the monastry tour we will have a tea with the monk and ask questions related to the monastic culture of the area.
You can extend your knowledge about the Mongol Empire in the Kharkhorin museum and see ancient artifacts and exhibitions.
We will spend the night in a tent with a beautiful view of nature.
Orkhon river waterfall
Orkhon valley is historic viewed as the seat of the imperial power of the steppes and it
encompasses an extensive area of pastureland on both banks of the Orkhon River. Numerous archaeological remains dating back to the 6th century have been kept underneath.
This valley was found to be very suitable for settlement of capital cities of the nomadic people and recognisting its historic importance to the humanity, UNESCO registered this valley as World Heritage site in 2004.
Your guide will tell interesting stories of this valley and its people. Reach the waterfall and enjoy the area.

Horse riding to Khuisiin naiman lake
Created by volcanic eruptions centuries ago, the Khuisiin Naiman lake part of the 115-sq-km Khuisiin Naiman Nuur Nature Reserve. The name meaning is "Eight lakes", and there are actually nine, not eight, lakes. The lakes are about 35km southwest of Orkhon waterfall. We will ride horse to the lakes.
Enjoy you day on horse. We will have lunch on the way. Tonight we will stay overnight at tent nearby the lakes.
Horse riding day around the lakes
All day is for you to ride horse around the beautiful area surrounded by the lakes. Tented overnight.
Horse riding back to Orkhon waterfall
Today we will return back to Orkhon waterfall on horseback. Have lunch on the way. Tented overnight nearby the waterfall.
Horse riding trip to Tuvkhun temple
After breakfast, we will get onto horseback and start a trip to Tuvkhun temple. This temple situated on mountain was built by H.E Zanabazar, the reincarnation of Buddhist scholar Taranatha and the biggest representative of Buddhism in Mongolia. He was a skilled sculptor and artist. It became a place for his meditation and artwork. came here in his early teen years. It was a place for his meditation and artworks.
We have to go up to the mountain with horse. There you will see small cave called "mother’s vomb"-slipping through this symbolizes rebirth and purifying one`s negative karma, 2 wells - 1 for fresh water and other with slightly brackish water.
The temple was heavily damaged by communists during the upheavals of the late 1930s.
Ride horse back to camping area. Tented overnight.
Tsenkher hot thermal spring
In the morning we will drive to Tsenkher hot sping area. After all the horse riding, take some time to relax in the Tsenkher hot spring. Hot springs are known to benefit in relieving pain, reducing stress
beneficial for relieving pain, reducing stress and increasing blood circulation. Take the day for leisure.
Tsenkher hot springs originate from volcanic eruptions and contains many minerals such as sodium and sulphur. If you want you can sit under the starry sky as mongolia is known for beautiful starry skies because there is no light pollution in the countryside/ rural areas.
Drive back to Ulaanbaatar
This is the end of our journey. After breakfast we will head back to Ulaanbaatar. Lunch will be served on the way and you will stay the night in the hotel. A farewell dinner is set for you.
Departure
We will meet you at the hotel and transfer you to the airport/train station. Have safe trip!
