Camel Festival in Southern Gobi
Tour Description
Harsh winter and Bactrian camel. Mongolian camels or the Bactrian camels played an important role in transporting goods on the Silk Road. Mongolian camels could be used in nearly all terrains starting from high mountains to inhospitable deserts. They were favoured by traders and remain a big part of Silk Road lore. Camel caravan leaders were ordinary herdsmen. With their many years of experiences, the caravan leaders could manage the caravan travel. Camel is still inseparable part of Mongolian nomadic lifestyle.
This tour will take you to the 10000 Camel Festival that is held every year in the Southern Gobi province in winter. You will enjoy watching the race, polo by camels and ride camels. During the festival, ''The Most Beautifully Dressed Couple in Traditional Costume'' is organised - it is an interesting event for you to watch.
Itinerary
Arrival and welcome tour around Ulaanbaatar
Welcome to Ulaanbaatar!
Our staff will welcome you at the airport/train station in Ulaanbaatar (UB), the capital of Mongolia and assist you checking in to the hotel. Have a rest until we take you for guided walking city tour that will introduce you to the highlights of the city: The central city square with a grand statue of Genghis Khan and Sukhbaatar statue placed at the center as well. Museum of National History is located right next to the square will introducing Mongolia's history from early humans to modern era. Then choose to visit one of two museums from the following: 1. Choijin Lama or State Oracle Residence-museum displaying best samples of Buddhist artwork and religious masks. 2 The Fine Arts Zanabazar Museum displays old arts including Buddhist arts, painting, folk arts and crafts, sculptures, carvings and embroideries.
In the evening at 6 p.m a welcome dinner is set for you.
Drive to the Southern Gobi province
Leave Ulaanbaatar at 08.00 am for Dalanzadgad city, Southern Gobi province. On the way we will have lunch and continue the trip till Dalanzadgad city. In the evening check into a local hotel.
Drive to Bulgan soum, where the 10000 Camel festival is hosted
After having breakfast early in the morning, we will leave for Bulgan soum where the festival is held. The festival covers opening event, camel parade and polo, camel racing, concert and other activities. Have lunch and dinner at local service place and retire in a ger.
Camel race and camel herders` contest followed by a closing ceremony
This day, we will watch camel racing (of 2 age groups) and local camel herders` contest. After, closing ceremony of the Festival we will head back to Dalanzadgad and stay in the hotel.
Drive back to Ulaanbaatar city
After having breakfast, we will drive back to Ulaanbaatar. Have lunch on the way. Check in to the hotel.
Departure
Our staff will meet you at the hotel and transfer you to the airport/train station. Have safe trip!
