Leaving behind the hassles of the daily life, visit a Mongolian nomadic family and herd their sheep for a day in the middle of open steppe and surround yourself in mountains and sand dunes. It will allow you unwind and contemplate the things which you normally do not due to too much noise or busy life in cities. By doing this you will realize, how small actually human needs and how simple the life could be. This is Mongolian minimalism that is embed in the nomadism.
Mongolia is a home to real and living nomadic culture that is dated 3-5 thousand years back. The nomads from the steppe developed their very own unique way of lifestyle that co-exists with nature without any conflicts since ancient times. Mongolians raise camel in gobi regions, sheep and goat in steppe areas, and yak and horse in /green and mountainous/ khangai region. It has been same over centuries. In order to overcome natural and climatic difficulties, the nomadic herders have to migrate 4-12 times a year. This is why they are called nomads. Many travelers and tourists visit Mongolia to observe and feel this nomadic way of lifestyle which has its own unique view of existence and universe.

Feel what exactly the sheep herding is with this tour. Sheep herding is a daily activity of nomads. Sheep herding exists only in open pastureland husbandry. In the middle of nowhere, the sheep and goats have to be guided and protected by their herder or owner from external dangers or from being mixed with sheep herd of different family. Mostly young adults and teenagers do sheep herding in summertime as schools are closed and kids go back to their home and their parents are freed from sheep herding until autumn. The kids play games and tell story to each other to keep them entertained. Sheep herding is a honored and respectful work.
A nomadic does not need lots of material possessions. All spheres of life of a nomadic family such as, culinary, furniture, clothing and communication embodies “minimalism”. As they need to migrate several times a year, nomadic families possess only the most crucial and vital items in their dwelling (ger).
Itinerary
Drive out of city to Elsentasarkhai, so called mini Gobi
At 8.30 am in the morning, your guide and driver will pick you up from your hotel or other places that you agreed previous day and drive out of city. Soon after leaving the city, you will already feel the vibe of countryside. Open valleys and little villages.
You will be treated with lunch by the herder family. After lunch, enjoy walking around and get to know the family and their dwelling (ger). In the evening, when their sheep arrive from pastureland, help the family to collect the sheep into a fence yard.

Get up early in the morning as sun starts to rise. Have typical Mongolian breakfast of homecooked pancake and milk cream. After the breakfast guide the sheep to the pasture.
On the way to the pastureland iImmerse yourself into the quiet steppe and follow the sheep. Once you reach the main pasture land along with the sheep, you can hike around, sit on the ground and observe clouds, peaks of the surrounding mountain, or just lie and relax. All these will unwind your mind and charge your mind and body with new and natural energy.
At noon have lunch and will continue herding after lunch. In the late afternoon, guide sheep towards the family back.

After breakfast, say goodbye to your nomad friends and head towards Ulaanbaatar city.
