Wonders of the Western Mongolia

Tour Description

This tour presents you majestic views of the western Mongolia. Lakes, mountains and steppes where locals live in nomadic way. What else would you need in order to shoot precious photos that will catch eyes of everyone.

 

We will welcome you at the airport or train station and take you to your hotel. Before leaving you until city tour starts we will agree on time.

The guided walking city tour offers the highlights of the city: the central city square with a grand statue of Genghis Khan and Sukhbaatar statue, the Museum of National History, then one of two museums Choijin Lama temple or the Fine Arts Zanabazar Museum.  

In the evening at 6 p.m we will take you to a show of traditional music, throat singing and contortion. After the show  a welcome dinner is set for you to enjoy and celebrate your arrival.

Early in the morning our staff will pick you up on the agreed time and take you to the airport. You will take a flight to Zavkhan province.  Upon your arrival meet our trip supporting crew in Uliastai and  drive to Ulaagchnii Khar Lake. Once you arrive at the campsite you will enjoy the area and have lunch and  dinner.

All day is for you to take pictures and hike around the lake. We advise you take photos at sunrise at the lake. Hike and discover the nice surroundings around Ulaangchnii Khar Nuur Lake. Have lunch in the nature. In the evening, you can enjoy taking photos at sunset.

In the morining after breakfast, drive to Mukhart River and Bor Kyar sand dune. This is a small river flowing on twenty kilometres (12,43 miles) along the Bor Khyar Dunes, forming a lovely oasis in which poplars and sea buckthorns grow creating unique view. This river literally gushes from the huge and lovely Bor Dune. As it spontaneously springs, it also spontaneously disappears afterwards in the dunes.

After having sunrise photography, we will head to the Khar Nuur Lake. It is part of a group of lakes that were once part of a larger prehistoric lake that disappeared 5,000 years ago as the region became drier. The  has a single inflow that is named Chono Kharaikh Gol river. 

Have lunch and hike around the area until dinner is set.

Today we will continue our trip to the Mt. Tsambagarav, the sacred mountain. Have lunch on the way. 

The mountain park area covers 110,960-hectare surrounding the snow-capped, 4193-m (13,737-ft) Tsambagarav Mountain,. Located at the border between Bayan-Ölgii and Hovd provinces, the park has beautiful scenery, rich wildlife, plenty of archeological sites to shoot with your camera. Here native nomadic Kazakh and Uriankhai herders living in the shadow of the holy mountain.

All day explore and hike around the mountain Tsambagarav and take photos. This national park is habitat to many species, among which are a population of snow leopards exists.  It is a mountain of the Altai Mountains range and has two peaks, its highest peak is named "Tsast Uul" (Mongolian:Snow covered mountain).

Our next destination is waiting for us. We will drive to Khoton and Khurgan twin Lake via Tolbo lake en route. Khoton is a spectacular alpine lake elevated at 2073m. You will find the campsite at Khoton lake to be idyllic. It has one of the largest petroglyph galleries of Mongolia, which is a fantastic photo shooting site. They date back to Neolithic period and the Bronze Age and depict numerous hunting scenes, and representations of wild and domestic animals of that time. Also there are some distinctly well preserved ancient burial sites which you can discover on your own. After lunch you may go swimming, explore the surroundings or chill out in the camp.

After breakfat, drive to Ulgii town and have some exploration in interesting little town mostly populated by local Kazakh. The aimag is located in the westernmost part of the country, and shares borders with both Russia and China. The border between the two neighbouring countries is very short here. It ends after about 40 km at the eastern end of Kazakhstan. 

The culture of the Kazakh majority is influenced by Islamic traditions and the mosque of Ulgii also houses the Islamic Center of Mongolia. You will enjoy doing shopping and walking around the city.
